September will be here in a heartbeat, so we are asking you to join our movement and put your heart on our Global Map of Kindness this year at PayItForward911.org. Simply visit the home page, scroll down to the map, and click the blue button to register and pledge your act of kindness. Once you fill out the quick form, that puts your community’s heart on the map. It’s free and fun to join in from near, far... wherever you are.

Kindness is contagious, and it’s easy and free to be kind. Last year we had acts of kindness in nearly every state and 16 countries... we are hoping to top that this year.

Any 11 days in September, we are asking everyone to do a random act of kindness (or three!) for #11DaysofKindness on the anniversary of 9/11. Join the movement and start a ripple effect - wherever you are.

Donate blood or do a good deed for a neighbor, teacher, military or first responder. Gift a stranger a free cup of coffee, or just give them a smile and a kind word.

Take a photo or video which describes your pay it forward and post on social media in September with #payitforward911 to inspire others to join the ripple effect.

Thank you to all of you who have already pledged and are keeping the ripple effect of kindness going to honor 9/11 families, survivors, helpers, and heroes and remember those we lost on that tragic day.

As an all-volunteer charity, PayItForward911.org is gearing up for another 11 Days of Kindness. From September 1st to the 11th, we need your help to grow the ripple effect of kindness in 2023.

We rely on corporate or individual donations to help us recruit new participants, develop tools, and promote kindness and unity. We do this as our way to honor the victims and heroes of the 9/11 attacks in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

You or your group/organization can unite to not only collect and give funds but to perform acts of kindness together. Make a plan for Labor Day weekend:

  • Raise funds and donate to Pay It Forward 9/11 or your favorite charity.

  • Give a stranger a cocktail or a cup of coffee, or just give them a hand with packages.

  • Do a good deed for a neighbor, teacher, or first responder.

  • Smile and start a conversation with a complete stranger. Kindness is free!

Click here to make a donation to support Pay It Forward 9/11, a tax-deductible donation. (We are a 501c3 charity, registered with the NY Charities Bureau.) Your donation helps us create tools like our Kindness for Kids Cards, our school and community toolkits, and recruit ambassadors to our mission of spreading kindness and unity.

Can’t donate? It’s okay! Join us by pledging an act of kindness on our website and put a pin in our Global Map of Kindness to share our message!

Whatever you do, we are with you and would love to hear about it! Email us at info@payitforward911.org to share photos and stories, and use the #11daysofkindness and #payitforward911 hashtags when you post on social media so we can share.

Thank you to all of you who have already donated, and are keeping the ripple effect of kindness going to honor those we lost on that tragic day, 9/11 family members, survivors, helpers, and heroes.

PAY IT FORWARD 9/11 INVITES YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN

“11 DAYS OF KINDNESS” SEPT. 1-11, 2023

All are encouraged to put their hometown on the PayItForward911.org kindness map by registering their deeds based on where they are from and share with #PayItForward911

The 21st annual Pay it Forward 9/11 campaign is underway, inviting groups, businesses and individuals to share their commitment to acts of kindness on an online map and start planning their “11 Days of Kindness” (September 1st-11th) activities to remember one of America’s darkest days in US history. Each year, leading up to the anniversary of 9/11, people are encouraged to perform three random acts of kindness for strangers for #11DaysOfKindness.

WHY:

Created in tribute to the compassionate people of small towns in the island province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, Pay It Forward 9/11 was started in 2002 by Kevin Tuerff, an airline passenger stranded there, wondering if others would do the same where they lived.

WHO: Kevin Tuerff is president and founder of Pay it Forward 9/11. According to Kevin, “Our 11 Days of Kindness campaign is just one way to honor and never forget those killed in 2001 on 9/11, and also the heroes who volunteered with acts of compassion, much like what I experienced when my 9/11 Trans-Atlantic flight was diverted to an island province in Canada. Thousands of unexpected airline travelers were provided basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter for five days in those small Canadian towns.”

WHAT:

Ways you can pay it forward:

  1. Visit your neighborhood where you work or live, and perform random acts of kindness where you see someone struggling or needing assistance (package, door, give them a flower, smile, or sing to them randomly!).

  2. Give a donation to a charity you feel connected to

  3. Write thank you notes to first responders, healthcare heroes, active duty military, or other essential workers.

  4. When you visit Starbucks or another coffee shop, offer to purchase the beverage for the person behind you in line and see if the idea sticks around for others.

  5. At a restaurant or bar, ask the wait staff to pick up the tab from a nearby table of strangers for you to buy. In the bill holder, insert a “Smile you’re the recipient of a random act of kindness” card (available here).

THREE ASKS:

  • Do a random act of kindness

  • Share your kindness story by registering on our website (payitforward911.org)

  • Post your Pay it Forward 9/11 action on your social media channels, using #PayitForward911 and #neverforget - we will share.
