Kevin Tuerff's extraordinary experience as a 9/11 refugee in Gander, Newfoundland, is one of the true stories that inspired the hit Broadway musical Come From Away. His journey, and the profound generosity he encountered, have resonated with millions worldwide, leading to dozens of actors portraying "Kevin T" (the gay lumberjack) on stages across the globe.

A captivating storyteller and internationally sought-after speaker, Kevin shares powerful insights on resilience, compassion, and community. Kevin delivered his first TEDx talk, “Compassion is the New Life Hack,” in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He delivered inspiring keynotes for diverse audiences, including corporations like Southwest Airlines and Zurich Insurance, leading trade associations, major charities, civic organizations, theater patrons, colleges, high schools, and houses of worship across the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

In 2018, Toronto-based House of Anansi Press published Kevin's memoir and audiobook, Channel of Peace: Stranded in Gander on 9/11, offering a deeper dive into his transformative experience. His compelling story has been featured by major media outlets including ABC News, Fox News, National Public Radio, CBC, CTV, Washington Post, CNN International, BBC, The Age (Melbourne), Toronto Star, National Geographic Travel, and Church Times UK.

Beyond his speaking engagements and literary work, Kevin is a passionate about boosting kindness, compassion and unity. His Pay it Forward 9/11 tradition is now an international charity with participants in every US state and more than a dozen countries.  His work consistently reflects his commitment to fostering positive change and inspiring collective action.
